mentor-of-the-month

My name is Lubabalo Tana; I am 40 years old; born and bred at Zikhonkwane locality at Cala in Sakhisizwe municipality under Chris Hani district municipality. I did my schooling at Mtetuvumile JSS and carry on to L. Jentile SSS that is also here in my village I then further my studies at Pitman training Centre in Umtata and continue to capacitate myself at Fine art training college in Johannesburg. I worked as a heavy-duty driver starting from 1997 and sales consultant. I got married in 2003 and I have 3 children all boys.

In 2010 after I lost my job I got employed by Mngcunube Development worked as a manager in CWP (Community Works Project). That project came to an end and I later started to work for Mngcunube Development as a community livestock mentor in the livestock improvement program in Sakhisizwe and Intsika Yethu local municipalities under Chris Hani District Municipality. My main objective is to develop and improve the livestock of small rural farmers of these local municipalities by inoculations, getting good rams for them, improving their information base on these matters and on the best market for their stock.

In the past, I’ve done lot of different activities but farming remains to be my priority. I am a capacitated mentor that produces qualified village link persons (VLPs) who helped a lot of rural farmers in developing their livestock. I really love my job because it is playing a fundamental role in improving other people’s lives. I appeal to whomever is funding these programs to please continue as they play an immense role in changing most people’s lives
